Prachi showed an inclination and flair for the performing arts from a very
young age. Encouraged by her family, she successfully pursued classical
dancing, acting, modelling and dubbing as a young girl still in school but never
at the cost of her academic studies. After graduating in Commerce from
Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, her aesthetic side drew
her to Interior Designing. And her interest in acting persuaded her to take a
dramatics course conducted by the National School of Drama (NSD). But she
found her true calling and passion in the exquisite beauty and grace of the
Bharata Natyam style of Indian classical dancing, which she continued all
along. Accepted at prestigious dance platforms, and groomed by masters of
the art of Bharata Natyam, Prachi evolved into a worthy exponent of this
exacting dance form at a remarkably young age.
Prachi trained under the able guidance of Guru Vaibhav Arekar and performed
her Arangetram under his tutelage. Now training under Guru Lata Raman in
the Tanjavore style, she is also learning Nattuvangam and Carnatic music from
her. She holds a Masters in Bharata natyam from Tilak Maharshtra Vidyapeeth
(Pune) and is also a Graded artiste of the Mumbai Doordarshan.
Prachi is an active volunteer with the CHIP foundation, an NGO that has
adopted few BMC schools and she trains children in the art of Bharata Natyam.
Art is a gift which once received must be shared, which is a strong belief she
holds. She actively participates in the Outreach programmes conducted by
NCPA-Mumbai through which lec-dems are conducted to get the children
acquainted with the various classical dance forms of INDIA.
Vivacious as a dancer, her sparkling public performances have held vast
audiences captive at numerous cultural meets and dance festivals. Her
constant endeavour is that the finer points and nuances of the magnificent
Bharata Natyam be appreciated and enjoyed by everyone, be it a discerning
audience or the lay public. After 2 decades of practicing this art form, she
feels there is yet so much to learn in this vast ocean of knowledge. The more
you learn, the more you realise how little you know!!
